Frequently asked questions
The questions families ask us first
Plain answers about Spanish law, costs, donors, travel, and how working with NadóWay actually goes.
Spain and the law
Yes. Assisted reproduction in Spain is governed by a national law passed in 2006 and updated since. Clinics are licensed and inspected, and Spain performs more assisted-reproduction cycles than any other European country, with a large share for international patients. You are treated under the same law and standards as a Spanish patient.
Spanish law allows treatment for any woman aged 18 or older regardless of marital status or sexual orientation. Single women and female same-sex couples are treated routinely. There is no statutory upper age limit, but clinics set their own medical limits, commonly around age 50 for embryo transfer.
Donation in Spain is anonymous by law and donors are compensated modestly for their time and expenses. Clinics select donors by medical screening and physical matching to the recipient. Because of this system Spain has one of the largest donor pools in the world and waiting times are usually weeks rather than months. You can generally learn general characteristics of your donor but not identifying information.
Published donor-egg pregnancy rates at leading Spanish clinics are commonly in the range of 55 to 60 percent per transfer, among the highest in Europe, and cumulative rates over several transfers are considerably higher. Rates vary by clinic and by your individual situation, and every clinic will discuss its own audited figures with you.
Cost and money
Barcelona IVF, our partner clinic, publishes IVF with your own eggs at €4,970 (about $5,470) and egg-donation packages from €3,850 to €6,980 (about $4,235 to $7,680) with blastocyst guarantees included. A comparable U.S. cycle with your own eggs commonly runs $15,000 to $25,000. A U.S. donor-egg cycle commonly reaches $35,000 to $65,000 or more once you add donor compensation, the agency or consultant most families need to find a donor, legal work, and screening; in Spain that search does not exist as a step. Even after flights, lodging, medications, and our concierge fee, most families come out $20,000 to $40,000 ahead on a first donor-egg cycle. Our cost comparison page shows the full breakdown.
Usually not directly, though a few plans reimburse some out-of-network fertility costs, and eligible medical expenses paid with an HSA or FSA may qualify regardless of where care is delivered. Travel primarily for medical care may also be partly deductible. We are not tax or insurance advisors, so we encourage you to confirm with your plan and your tax professional. We can supply itemized clinic documentation.
You contract with and pay the clinic directly, in euros, usually by bank transfer or card in stages tied to your treatment. NadóWay never handles your treatment payments. Our concierge fee is separate and quoted in writing before you engage us.
The process
It depends on your treatment. For donor-egg IVF, much of the preparation and monitoring can happen at home in coordination with the Spanish clinic, and many patients make a single trip of about five to ten days for the embryo transfer. IVF with your own eggs usually means a longer stay of two to three weeks for stimulation, retrieval, and transfer, or two shorter trips. We map this out in your plan.
Often yes. Many Barcelona clinics coordinate with a local OB/GYN or fertility clinic for baseline testing, ultrasounds, and bloodwork before you travel. Part of our work is arranging that hand-off and making sure results move between providers on time.
From a first consultation to an embryo transfer, three to six months is common, depending on your testing, donor matching, cycle timing, and travel. Video consultations with the clinic happen early, so you are not waiting on a trip to get started.
Yes. The Barcelona clinics we work with have international patient departments with English-speaking physicians and coordinators, and much of your communication happens by email and video before you travel. When medical language gets dense, we help translate it into plain English.
Working with NadóWay
We are a concierge and coordination service. We help you understand your options, choose among vetted independent clinics, build a realistic plan and timeline, arrange travel and logistics, interpret information from the clinic, and stay supported before, during, and after treatment. We do not provide medical care, diagnosis, or treatment; all clinical decisions are between you and the clinic physicians. We are also not a law firm, insurer, or travel agency.
A ten-day small-group trip to Barcelona, facilitated in person by our founder, to tour our partner clinic, meet physicians one on one, and experience the city before committing to treatment. Groups run with six to eight travelers. It is optional and pairs with any of our concierge packages, and $1,500 of your Discovery Journey fee is credited toward any NadóWay concierge package if you engage us within 12 months.
NadóWay is based in Duluth, Minnesota and serves families across the United States, beginning with Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and the Dakotas. Consultations are by video or phone, and on-the-ground support happens in Barcelona.
Our fee is paid by you and does not depend on which clinic or treatment you choose. If a partner clinic pays us a coordination fee for the administrative work of preparing and introducing patients, we disclose it to you in writing. Your treatment payments always go directly to the clinic.
Thirty minutes, by video or phone. We listen to where you are, answer your questions about Spain, and tell you honestly whether it is worth exploring further. If it is, we describe what working together would look like and quote a fixed fee. If not, we will say so.
